A Taste of Sabbath

Saturday, February 21, 2026

Saturday mornings at Pataskala, following Sabbath school classes, we enter into the sanctuary to pray, praise and meditate on the word of God. With several members traveling, Sister Becky led us in praise and prayer.

Highlights: Becky reminded us how In Old Testament times, sacrifices were completely burned up, and disappeared in smoke. Jesus, our great High Priest is completely sufficient to carry all our worries, concerns, anxieties, hopes and dreams. We need to lay everything on His altar.

Message Highlights

Pastor Chuck was out of town for a book signing (congratulations!). But he took time to pre-record a message via video, from the book of Joshua, chapters 6 and 7.

After the mighty walls of Jericho crashed down, why did the children of Israel experience such a shocking defeat at the small town of Ai?

It had everything to do with asking God for help, and obeying God’s commands. A man named Achan disobeyed God. He took something from the city that had been set aside to God for complete destruction. In doing so, he brought that curse of destruction upon himself, his family and the whole community.

What are we inviting or allowing into our lives that is destructive?
What do we need to release to God?

You and I are not always right, and that is something we will always struggle with this side of glory. Like the disobedient Israelites, we can be distracted by something that is outside of God’s will for us. Jesus knows this about us — loves us anyway and invites us to release everything to Him. He is our hope!

A Taste of Sabbath

Saturday, February 14, 2026

On a day when everyone celebrates love, at Pataskala Seventh Day Baptist church we celebrated the love of Jesus. Pastor Chuck gave a message about the woman who anointed Jesus at Bethany, from the text of Luke chapter 7 — and challenged us all to “be that woman.”

The Pharisees, considered “holy” in their culture did things for the sake of show and control. They regarded Jesus as someone to trap and shut down. The woman perceived who He truly was and courageously, anointed his feet with precious perfume.

The Pharisees barely acknowledged him as human. The woman worshiped him as her Lord.

We are called to humble ourselves before the Lord. To yield to Jesus. To recognize that we have no hope apart from the cross of Christ. And to realize that HE is completely sufficient for all of our worries and cares and sins. Let us, like the woman, throw ourselves at the feet of Jesus. He is all we need.

Amen.

That evening, we fellowshipped together too!

A Taste of Sabbath

Saturday, February 7, 2026

We began a series focused on the “Upside-down” nature of God’s Kingdom–the kingdom where “Blessed are the poor in spirit.” “Blessed are those who mourn.” “Blessed are the merciful, the meek, the persecuted…”

And what are we called to do “but walk justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our God.”
Micah 6:8

The world says you’re blessed if you’re successful, comfortable. God is asking for lives that reflect HIS character: merciful. Just. Obedient–and that is how we are truly blessed.

God is looking for:
Faith that is firm in its decisions;
Faith that is fair (doesn’t play games) and
Faith that is consistent: one life — not a “church” version and a”rest of the week” version.

Highlights from the service:

Announcements and scriptures and songs and prayers. Something you’ll see every week, but special every time.

Pastor Chuck in action with the kid’s message. “We all have a purpose!” The kids loved his example of lasagna ingredients.

And a challenge. How do we, a growing church, reach out to the people here in Pataskala searching for Jesus? And searching for Sabbath?

Pataskala Seventh Day Baptist Church continues to grow hearts for Jesus.
We’d love to meet YOU!

A Taste of Sabbath

Saturday, January 31, 2026

We were so glad to re-convene after missing our worship time in person last week due to winter weather.

It is good to be in the house of the Lord!

Marissa reminded the children and all of us that when we confess our sins, the blood of Jesus washes us as white as snow. Amen!

We sang with all our hearts along with Pastor Chuck and his wife Jessie — reminding us that it is truly Well with my Soul, and we have Ten Thousand Reasons to bless the Lord, and more!

Sister Becky led us to pray and praise God for answers to many prayers, including Pastor Dusty and some fellow pastors who were in a legal battle with their city about feeding the homeless and leading Bible studies in city parks. The American Center for Liberty and Justice (ACLJ) took up the case and charges were dropped. Praise God!

Pastor Robert shared a heartfelt message about faith and practice. How do you apply the different kinds of love the Bible teaches especially in times of unrest in our nation. He encouraged us to reach out to one another in love, especially in hard times, and to pray for wisdom. Bring Your Kingdom, Jesus!

Today’s emphasis: When you open the Bible, and read it, prepare to be transformed! It is God’s living and active word.

Pastor Chuck and Jessica led us to worship and sing about our Awesome God. We celebrated birthdays. Susie illustrated loaves and fishes for the kids, and as always we prayed. Thank you Becky.

Pastor shared details of how the Bible was written over the course of 1500 years by 40 men and women and ultimately preserved for us today.

Only God could work across such a span of authors and cultures and deliver a consistent message: He loves us. He wants to save us from death. One day Jesus will return to complete the work of vanquishing death forever and deliver those who trust Him to life everlasting–Amen!

Check out these scripture answers to these questions: (New International Version, emphasis added).

Who wrote the Bible? “For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” 2Peter 1:21

What does the word of God do? “To the Jews who believed Him, Jesus said, if you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8: 31-32

How should we protect and respect scripture? “I warn everyone who hears the words of prophecy in this book: if anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.”

We hope you enjoyed a taste of Sabbath here in Pataskala–come see us in person!

You’ll find a growing church with a big heart.
