2018 Fall Festival Held

About 55 people attended and enjoyed the Fall Festival the afternoon on November 10, 2018. The church was decorated with carnival games throughout the classrooms.  Games included Ping Pong Ball Toss, Nerf Gun Targets, Balloon Toss, Donut Bobbing, Pumpkin Ring Toss, Cupcake Walk, Mini Cornhole, and Laundry Basket Beachball Throw!  Those of all ages who participated got tickets which they were able to redeem for prizes at the Prize Table.

In addition to the games, there was also a drawing for a pumpkin pie (& whipped cream), a photo spot to take pictures with your family & friends, a hayride, food & drink, and a place to just rest & relax a bit.

Although it was a bit chilly, several kids and adults braved the weather and bundled up to enjoy the Hayride.  The rosy cheeks and happy laughter were the sign they had returned to the church after about 20 minutes!

Thanks to all who helped and thanks to all who came!  It was a fun afternoon and a chance to meet some new people.  Here are some pictures captured throughout the Fall Festival:

Worship — What Does It Mean?

While Pastor Robert & several other men were away at a Men’s Retreat, we were led in worship by the Van Horn and Patterson children.  THANKS & WELL DONE to the kids and parents!

Emma Van Horn was the worship leader, including prayer & share time.

Lily Van Horn gave a great sermon titled “Worship – What Does It Mean?” based on John 4:21-24.

Josiah Van Horn, Ava Van Horn, and Cora Patterson helped with the Scout & Scamper puppet show for the Children’s Time (but it was Adults sitting in the front pews as well as collecting the money for the Building Up the Temple offering which the children usually do!).

Cora Patterson helped take the microphone around for the Prayer & Share time. ALL of the kids (plus Chris Van Horn) did a great time leading the Praise Time part of the worship service.  Thanks all!

Here’s a link to a video of the service.

Spiritual Adultery (10/13/2018)

Here is Pastor Robert Van Horn’s sermon from October 13, 2018 titled “Spiritual Adultery” based on James 4:4-6.

James 4:4-6 4 You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. 5 Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the spirit he caused to live in us envies intensely? 6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

2018 Annual Women’s Retreat Held

2018 retreat 7Women from Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, South Carolina, and Alabama Seventh Day Baptist churches and guests joined together at Camp Joy in Berea, WV the weekend of September 28-30, 2018.  There were six women attending from the Pataskala Seventh Day Baptist Church, Becky Van Horn, Monika Martin, Susie Fox, Marge Patrick and Marge’s two sisters Erlene and Marilyn.  All together there were 22 women from several different churches attending.

The weekend was planned and led by the women from the Salemville, PA church, along with help from other churches for meals and clean-up. We studied the book A Confident Heart by Renee Swope.  Using video clips by Renee, the teaching sessions were led by Amanda Barbee and Kristin Camenga. Due to time constraints, we were only able to get a brief touch of the book’s main points, but the women received copies of the book to take home.  The information covered helped us all learn “how to stop doubting yourself and live in the security of God’s promises” which is the subtitle of the book.

In addition to the 4 insightful lessons, we had some great meals and snacks, time to relax in beautiful rural West Virginia, meet new friends, worship in a church that’s over 200 years old, and got to sit around a campfire at night to sing songs & play games.

Reminder, the retreat is always the last full weekend in September.  Maybe you can join  on September 27-29, 2019 for next year’s retreat!
