Christmas Outreach Project

AAF 5Money collected, presents bought, gifts wrapped, packages delivered . . . Our church’s Christmas Outreach project has been completed!  Starting back in July, our weekly “Building Up the Temple” mission offering for 3Q/2017 was allocated for Christmas Outreach.  For the second year, we teamed up with the Licking County Salvation Army’s “Adopt-A-Family” program providing gifts to local families who need some extra help at Christmas.

AAF 1We applied and were provided names, ages, sizes, etc. for two local families enrolled in the program through the Salvation Army.  Shirley Pest and Veronica Van Horn made a GREAT shopping team!  They scoured the stores and came up with great gifts for all.  We were able to provide pajamas, hat & scarf, boots, two toys, and a filled stocking for each of the children on our list.  Each family also received some gift cards to use for holiday food.

AAF 2The next step found Susie Fox wrapping the gifts, adding name tags, and filling the stockings with all the things Veronica & Shirley purchased!  Per the program guidelines, each family’s wrapped gifts were then placed in bags labeled with their “Adopt-A-Family” number.

AAF 3On Thursday, December 14, 2017, Dean & Susie Fox delivered the bags of gifts to the Licking County Salvation Army location at 250 East Main Street in Newark, OH.

Our gifts were added to a LOT of others being collected.  Then several  additional volunteers organize the bags collected from the donors and have them ready for the families when they come to pick them up the following week!AAF 4

Thanks to all who helped and contributed . . . Merry Christmas!

Fall Festival Held Sunday Oct 29th

fallfestLots of fun, great food, and plenty of energy describes the Fall Festival held at the Pataskala Seventh Day Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon, October 29, 2017 from 4-6 pm.  Due to the cooler weather, the festivities were moved indoors, with various games scattered in different rooms throughout the church.  As guests entered, they were greeted with the Photo Spot where people could get their pictures taken with or without a variety of things to “accessorize” them.  Several people went home with family pictures taken and printed while you wait.  In addition, there were several carnival-type games for prizes including ring toss over pumpkins, Plinko, Tic-Tac-Toe beanbag toss, Bible Bingo, make-your-own paper airplane, and tossing ping pong balls into floating rings in a baby pool.

There was plenty of food & drink for relaxing between games and at 5:00 pm several enjoyed a Hay Ride!  At  5:30 pm, we gathered as a group for some fun “Minute To Win It” games followed by a door prize for a free pumpkin pie!

Thanks to all who helped to make it an enjoyable and fun afternoon!  Check out some of the pictures below.

emma baptism 7

Emma Elizabeth Van Horn, daughter of Chris & Veronica Van Horn, was baptized on October 7th, 2017.  The baptism took place during the weekly worship service at the Pataskala Seventh Day Baptist church.

Emma wanted to publicly show her previous decision to accept Jesus into her heart as her Lord and Savior.  emma baptism 1

Emma chose three of her favorite hymns to be included in the morning worship service: “In the Garden”, “Amazing Grace”, and “Nothing But the Blood”.

Emma was baptized by Pastor Robert Van Horn, who is also Emma’s proud grandfather.  The service ended with the congregation greeting Emma with hugs and well wishes.

The evening services and guest speaker presentations were live-streamed throughout the week so those not in attendance could participate.  You can access these recorded messages along with photos from the week at the SDB denominational website (seventhdaybaptist.org).PR admitted as new member church

Our church’s branch church in Puerto Rico was one of three new churches accepted into membership of the SDB General Conference (USA & Canada).  Delegates Judith and Joel Houts attended to accept on behalf of their new church!

Dean and Susie Fox were the other two delegates from our church attending the week long Conference.  When asked about some of their favorite parts of the week, Dean said, “I really enjoyed the daily Bible Studies led by Carl Greene on Ephesians 1-4.  His stories and visual aids made a lot of great points and entertaining as well!”   Susie Fox added, “I really enjoyed the outside speaker for the Women’s Banquet and workshop, Emily Klotz.  Her testimony really gave glory to God!”

2018conflogoThe new theme for the coming year was unveiled Saturday night by the incoming Conference President Dave Stall.  It is “Less Talk, More Action”.  We were challenged to take action throughout the year, not just talk about what we should do!  Next  year’s General Conference sessions will be held July 29-August 4, 2018 at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI.

Hosting SDB General Council May 2017

pataskala gc pic 3It was a joy and a blessing for the Pataskala SDB Church to host the Seventh Day Baptist General Council for their meetings May 19-21, 2017.  The SDB General Council consists of five elected members: Susie Fox (chair), Rod Noel (vice chair), Ralph Mackintosh, Dale Thorngate, and Andy Samuels; and two non-voting members: Rob Appel (SDB Executive Director) and Ron Ochs (SDB Financial Director).  new SDB logoMembers arrived in the Columbus area Thursday evening from New York, West Virginia, Florida, California, and Wisconsin to meet all day Friday and Saturday evening.  (Ron attended remotely via conference call for this meeting.)

pataskala gc pic 1On Sabbath (Saturday) the members of General Council worshiped with the Pataskala SDB church and Pastor Andy Samuels gave an inspiring and motivating morning message entitled “The Great GOmission” based on Romans 1:8-16.  Another General Council member, Ralph Mackintosh, used his Christian Illusionist talents during the children’s time to cleverly share the message “we are ALL important people in the church working together” .

Following the worship service and a potluck Fellowship Meal, there was a Question & Answer time to get to know more about the General Council and things currently happening across the SDB denomination.pataskala gc pic 2
