Elias Patterson Baby Dedication

A baby dedication service was held during the worship service on Sabbath March 9, 2019 for Elias Alexander Patterson, son of Jamie and Marissa Patterson (and sister to Cora).  Pastor Robert Van Horn (and proud grandfather) led the time of dedication which included special music, a covenant of dedication by the parents and confirmation of support by the many family members present and also the church family. Earlier in the service Pastor Robert had read Children Learn What They Live and this sentiment was captured in the covenant by Marissa and Jamie Patterson.

As part of the dedication service Elias’ older sister Cora and cousin Josiah Van Horn enacted the story of when Mary and Joseph brought their baby son Jesus to the temple to dedicate him found in Luke 2:22-24.

Following the service was a time of celebration and fellowship enjoying a beautiful cake made by Elias’ mom (see Cora’s Confections). Congratulations to all the proud parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins!

Kindness Superheros at March Kids Club

event pictureThe theme for our monthly Kids Bible Club on March 2, 2019 was “Be A Kindness Superhero”. Attendance was a little less than expected, but the twelve kids (and 9 adults) who were there had a lot of fun learning about kindness with a superhero theme! We started out singing “Jesus is my Superhero” and a fun skit starring Christoper Van Horn and Dean Fox.  Following the opening, we divided into two groups based on ages for a Bible lesson and craft project. mar kids club 3

The younger group learned about the kindness shown in the Bible story of The Good Samaritan and then made superhero masks.  The older group discussed kindness based on four Bible passages ( Luke 6:31, Colossians 3:12, Ephesians 4:32, Galatians 5:22) and then used florescent highlighters to color superhero doorknob hangers).mar kids club 1

Then the whole group came together again to play “KIND”, a variation on Bingo. Each person had a card filled with various acts of Kindness and non-readers were matched up with partners who could read. Whenever someone had a match to what was called out, they placed a Hershey’s Hug playing piece on that square.  This continued until someone got 4 in a row, taking breaks occasionally to sample the candy playing pieces.mar kids club 9

Next was snack and we played another game of “KIND” during snack time. Then the group went back to the sanctuary to sing “Jesus is my Superhero” song again, have a closing prayer and pass out invitations for next month’s Kid Bible Club on April 6, 2019. Next month’s theme will be “Let Your Light Shine” (i.e. think glow sticks!).

mar kids club 10All kids ages 3-12 are invited to this monthly Kids Bible Club held the first Saturday night of each month, 6:30-8:00pm, at the Pataskala Seventh Day Baptist Church.

Being a Shepherd

On Sabbath February 28, 2019, we listened to the recording of Pastor Robert Van Horn’s ordination sermon given at the ordination service for Pastora Judith Houts at the Agape Seventh Day Baptist Church in Puerto Rico held the previous Sabbath. You can tell from his references as well as the interpreter that he was speaking to a multi-lingual group.

Fun at February Kids Bible Club

invite picture“Jesus Loves You SNOW Much!” was the theme for the Kids Bible Club held the evening of February 2, 2019.  The Bible lesson for the evening was about how God created the world and everything in it — including snowflakes!  We learned that like snowflakes, God created us each different and beautiful.febkids8

The Kids Bible Club is held from 6:30-8:00 pm monthly on the first Saturday night of the month.  Unfortunately our SNOW theme was cancelled last month due to winter weather!  So we enjoyed the snow based crafts and games just as much this month.

febkids10After the introduction all together with a “Miss Snowflake Pageant” skit and singing the action song “God’s Love is Big” the group separated into older and younger classes for the Bible lesson and crafts.  The younger group made pictures using snowflake stamps and paint while the older class painted snowflake suncatchers.

Next everyone joined together again for a trio of febkids7“snowball” (cotton balls!) games: a relay carrying snowballs on spoons, seeing who could blow the snowball the closest to the edge of the table without going off, and an indoor snowball fight!

After a break for snacks, we joined back in the church sanctuary for our closing!  It was a great evening and everyone had a lot of fun!  (A big thank you to all the adults who helped out!)

All kids ages 3-12 are invited to our next Kids Bible Club event on Saturday March 2, 2019 at 6:30-8:00 pm with the theme “Be a KINDNESS Super Hero”.
