Lady Legomutton and Chester the Jester introduced each lesson

There were snacks, lessons, puppets, crafts, games, singing, smile, giggles, and fun for all ages at the Vacation Bible School held each evening June 16-20, 2014 from 6:45-8:30 pm.   The theme was “It’s a King Thing” using materials from David C. Cook publishers and each evening focused on a different  King or Queen from the Bible.   Puppets Lady Legomutton and Chester the Jester introduced the lesson each night after some joyful singing and flag waving.  The lessons were on King Solomon (Mon), King David (Tues), King Solomon (Wed), Queen Esther (Thur), and Nehemiah who was the King’s cup-bearer (Fri).   Thanks to all who attended and helped for making it a fun time to learn about these Bible people!

Babies, toddlers, children, adults, grandparents, and one great-grandmother attended the Family Night on May 31, 2014.  Everyone was encouraged to dress up in something related to a Bible verse.   After mingling over snacks and trying to guess who (or what) people were dressed as, we spent some time matching people up with their scripture verses.   What a variety of costumes and verses we had:  Jael, Zepphora, young David, the daughter of Herodias, Benaiah, Hadassah (young Esther), Queen Esther, Moses parting the Red “C” (Sea), a virtuous woman, Lydia, Noah’s Ark story, a fox in grapes, animals of the sea, a baby duck, and a Jailer.    Next we had some fun Bible games.  Starting with the youngest, everyone (who wanted to) said a Bible verse from memory.  Then we divided into three groups to form “freeze frame scenes” for the other groups to guess (kind of like still-life-charades).   Following that we had some trivia questions about the twelve disciples and realized we didn’t quite know as much as we thought.    We rounded the evening out with more time to sample the delicious snacks and just relax with each other.   Thanks to Marissa Patterson for being our organizer and MC for the evening.   A good time was had by all!

2014 Licenses to Preach Voted to 5 Members

During the January 4, 2014 church business meeting, it was voted to extend Licenses to Preach to five members.   Two of the members, Becky Van Horn and Johnny Long, were present and given licenses to encourage the development and use of their gifts for preaching and related ministry.   Three other members who are currently in a pastoring role, Judith &  Joel Houts and Ray Peterson, were granted a similar license including additional pastoring responsibilities such as administering communion and funeral services.  Although they are still members of our church, Judith and Joel Houts are currently pastoring in Puerto Rico and Ray Peterson is assisting with pastoral work in Albion, Wisconsin.   We are happy for these people as they utilize the gifts and opportunities God has given them!

Fall Festival Held on October 12

There was lots of fun for all who attended the Fall Festival held in the yard outside of the church from 4-7pm, Saturday, October 12, 2013.   In addition to the good food and carnival type games (think penny and bean bag toss and PLINKO), there was three-legged race, a BAKE walk for some yummy baked goods, and a “Take-Your-Own-Picture” dress up spot.   Take a look at some of the pictures below:
