Tim Lawton Graduation Celebration
Saturday evening, May 2, 2015, the church held a dinner to celebrate Tim Lawton’s college graduation. Tim will graduate from Cedarville University with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering in December after finishing his last few classes. Since there isn’t a ceremony in December, Tim participated in the May 2 graduation ceremony. Tim’s parents, Jeff and Nadine Lawton, his sister, Sarah Uhlich, and his nephew, Roper Uhlich came to cheer him on as well as help him pack as he returns home to Rhode Island for the summer.
As part of the dinner, Tim & his parents presented a Certificate of Appreciation
to the church. Signed by Tim, the certificate read “to honor and recognize the confidence, devotion, guidance, and assistance freely given in helping me obtain this important milestone in my life.” Pastor Robert Van Horn accepted the certificate on behalf of the church.
The menu for the dinner included lasagna, bread, and salad followed with a decorated cake from Cora’s Confections and a variety of ice cream flavors from Johnson’s. The food was delicious, the fellowship entertaining, and the evening was enjoyed by all in attendance.

There will be a Pre-Camp this year at Camp Joy in Berea, West Virginia. The dates are May 16-17, 2015 and it is for kids in 1st and 2nd grades to give them a taste of what “real camp” will be like. If there are older kids who have not yet participated at Camp Joy, they are also invited to come to this Pre-Camp and be “helpers”. The Pre-Camp will start at 2pm on Sabbath afternoon, May 16, and will end after lunch on Sunday, May 17, at 1pm. The director for this Pre-Camp is Mrs. Chris Sias. Registration is required, so please contact Chris to let her know what kids are able to come, or if you have any questions. The cost is minimal, only $5 per person, to cover the cost of insurance. We hope all of our kids in the 1st and 2nd grades will be able to come and enjoy the pre-camp experience at Camp Joy! (First graders are included in this program because it is not an annual event)
If you have to travel a distance to bring children and want to assist with the camp, adult helpers are appreciated. Bring the basic Camp Joy Camper Registration Form with you. If there are any food allergies, advance notice would be appreciated. Response with the number of anticipated participants would be appreciated a week before Pre-Camp.

February Family Night Celebrates Love
On a winter evening the last day of February 2015, there was lots of energy and laughter in the Bond Fellowship Hall of the Pataskala Seventh Day Baptist Church from 7-8:30 pm. Guests arrived to find tables arranged around the room with little dishes of M&M’s, Wasabi peanuts, and snack mix on each decorated table. Robert and Lana Van Horn were our hosts for the evening. A rousing game of balloon badminton across a red string with paper-plate rackets was a hit for all ages — and the big red balloons continued to be a favorite for the youngest ones throughout the evening! Several times, we took a “holy kiss” break to share chocolate kisses passed out by Pastor Robert with others in the room plus there were many delicious dips, cookies, and snacks to nibble on throughout the evening. Chris and Veronica Van Horn entertained us with a skit where Christopher became Veronica’s arms as she prepared for a date by brushing teeth, applying makeup and doing hair! Lana led the group in a trivia game based on “Bible Blurt” and another game singing as many songs as teams could think of containing a certain word (love, sunshine, etc.). Pastor Robert closed the evening with devotions and the kids helped by acting out portions of “The Love Chapter” in I Corinthians 13. Thanks to all for coming, sharing, and warming up the winter with love!

Talent/No-talent Family Night August 30
It is
always amazing (but not surprising) to see the variety of talents and abilities God gives people!
Our TNT (Talent or No-Talent) Family night was held at the church Saturday night, August 30th, from 6:30-8:30 pm. We started the evening off with a show consisting of guitar playing, singing, puppet show drama, tumbling, video show, costumed performers, jokes, card tricks, cross-stitch show-n-tell, a p(h)unny fashion show, and a science demonstration . . . and even someone saying the alphabet backwards!
After the show, we all joined in the Fellowship Hall for “make-your-own-ice-cream-sundaes” with choices of toppings on (our favorite) Johnson’s ice cream.
There was fun, there was laughter, there were surprises, there was yummy ice cream!
Rev. Dr. Perumal & Vasantha Paramanandam Visit
Rev. Dr. Perumal & Vasantha Paramanandam from India Calvary Ministries in Chennai, India visited our church on August 16, 2014. Their ministry works through churches, a Bible College for new pastors, street ministry, children’s programs, and outreach to lepers. Born into a Hindu family, Dr. P’s father was healed of throat cancer in 1966 when Christians came and prayed for him. Their family was baptized and Dr. P became a Christian as he learned more about the one true God through the Bible in the following years. In 1997, Dr. P received a vision to plant 1000 churches across India. He is visiting the United States to share God’s message as well as raise funds and awareness for India Calvary Ministries.

Following Vasantha’s special music, Dr. Paramanandam shared a message about 7 Bible Animals who obeyed God and ministered as a result. These were Dove, Camel, Ravens, Great Fish, Small Fish, Rooster, and a Dumb Donkey. If God could use these animals…He can surely use us!
Our church was blessed by Dr. P’s visit and message. To find out more about India Calvary Ministries or to make a donation, go to www.indiacalvaryministries.org

You can listen to the recording of the worship service with the Paramanandams under the Sermon section of this website here August 16, 2014 worship service.
