Four women from our church attended the annual Seventh Day Baptist Appalachian Association Women’s Retreat held at Camp Joy the weekend of September 22-24, 2017.
There were a total of 31 women attending the retreat from Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Tennessee, New Jersey, South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama in addition to those attending from our Seventh Day Baptist church in Ohio.
The program was planned by women from the Shepherd’s Fold SDB church in Tennessee this year with the theme “Running the Race”. Sessions were taught by Brenda Rankhorn and Cate Abraham on the topics of Focus, Training, Discipline, and Living Graciously. Women attending from Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio prepared & provided the yummy meals!
In addition to the teaching sessions, there was free time to enjoy the rustic and beautiful camp setting as well as fellowship with new and old friends. The weekend was a time to eat, sing, worship, pray, hug, talk, play, laugh, and learn together. By Sunday morning, the women were refreshed as they left to return home and also looking forward to next year!
(The annual women’s retreat is scheduled for the last full weekend of September each year at Camp Joy in Berea, West Virginia. Any interested women are welcome to attend. Next year’s retreat will be planned by the women in Salemville, PA and held September 28-30, 2018.)

Delegates from our church attended the 2017 SDB General Conference meetings in Azusa, CA held July 23-30, 2017. The theme was “Life On Mission” led by Conference President Patti Wethington. It was a week filled with a variety of activities including daily Bible Studies, evening worship services, featured guest speakers, workshops, women’s and youth banquets, denominational business, acceptance of 3 new churches into membership, interest committee meetings, choir & special music, testimonies, and more!
The new theme for the coming year was unveiled Saturday night by the incoming Conference President Dave Stall. It is “Less Talk, More Action”. We were challenged to take action throughout the year, not just talk about what we should do! Next year’s General Conference sessions will be held July 29-August 4, 2018 at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI.
Are you empowered to run the race that God has set before you? Come and acquire tools to focus, train and engage in daily disciplines that will help you accomplish this goal! Sessions will be led by Brenda Rankhorn and Cate Abraham.
A gift of $10 is appreciated for the weekend – it helps buy the supplies we need for each retreat, but don’t stay away if you do not have the $10 – we’d rather have YOU than the money!

Members arrived in the Columbus area Thursday evening from New York, West Virginia, Florida, California, and Wisconsin to meet all day Friday and Saturday evening. (Ron attended remotely via conference call for this meeting.)
On Sabbath (Saturday) the members of General Council worshiped with the Pataskala SDB church and Pastor Andy Samuels gave an inspiring and motivating morning message entitled “The Great GOmission” based on Romans 1:8-16. Another General Council member, Ralph Mackintosh, used his Christian Illusionist talents during the children’s time to cleverly share the message “we are ALL important people in the church working together” .

On Saturday evening, February 11, 2017, we had a great group meet together in the church fellowship hall for delicious pizza and snacks and some rousing rounds of Family Feud. Both children and adults joined in the excitement, whether watching or participating as contestants!
It all started around 6:30 as we gathered to try out 10 different kinds of pizza, salad, and several yummy snacks including a chocolate fountain with a variety of “dippers”!
