Join Us for Wednesday Night Bible Study

Bible StudyEach Wednesday evening you’ll find a group of curious and faithful people studying God’s Word at our mid-week Bible Study.  We gather about 6:30 pm and have a time of teaching, sharing, and prayer for a little over an hour.  We just finished studying the book of Hebrews and are currently viewing a DVD series by Dr. Ken Hovind on the science behind creation.  creation-series-dvd

Bible study is an important way to learn more about our awesome God and his son Jesus. God does just as many amazing things today as in the past!  He gives us so much wisdom and principles for living a joyful life.

All are welcome to join us.  You don’t have to be a church member to attend at Pataskala Seventh Day Baptist Church, 12161 Broad Street SW, Pataskala, OH 43062.

Ocean Commotion – VBS 2016!

assembly 1We had an undersea theme for our 2016 Vacation Bible School held each evening June 13-17, 2016.  Starting each evening at 6:00, we met in the sanctuary for our Assembly Time to kick off the evening and learn some cool songs.  Our Assembly Leader surprised us dressed in costumes each night to go along with the theme.  For 90 minutes each night, we followed 15 minutes each for Assembly, Lesson, Science, Crafts, Games, and Snacks.  At 7:30 everyone went home to come back the next night!

lesson 1The Lesson time helped the children to “dive deep” into the story of Noah in the Bible.  A favorite part of each lesson was Sandy the puppet who showed up in class each day.  In Science time the children made ships in a bottle, tested boats to sink or float, made volcanos, made fossils, and reflected rainbows as they also learned the science behind these amazing things.science 2

In Craft time they decorated mini tote bags, put together a Noah’s Ark picture, did a scratch-off animal card, crafts 1made a frame for their undersea picture, and painted a rainbow box.  Then it was outside for games.  The weather cooperated and the kids played several different games, but the older kids liked “Ships & Sailors” best games 1and the younger kids liked the swing set best!

As we ended the evening, it was back inside for Snack Time with something to go along with the theme each night as well: a cup of whales, an apple wedge boat with cheese sails, animal crackers where you had to find a matching pair, and rainbow crispie treats.  During snack time we had drawing for theme related prizes with different children winning something each night!

Here are some pictures of all the fun at Ocean Commotion Vacation Bible School 2016!

Mother’s Day Breakfast 2016

moms 1On May 8, 2016, the men of the church fixed and served breakfast for the women in honor of Mother’s Day.  A delicious breakfast buffet of cheesy eggs, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes, fresh fruit, biscuits & gravy, danish, muffins, scones, and coffee/tea was served.  The tables were decorated with beautiful “snowball bush” cuttings.  After the meal, each woman received a decorated favor containing homemade buckeye candy.  Then each woman present looked at the number on the bottom of her plate to choose a door prize. Following this, each person (young and old) had a chance to share a special memory they have with their mother.  A great time of good food, good conversation, and good memories was shared by all — as you’ll see in the pictures below!

WANTED:Crafts for SCSC Table at Conference

scsc craftsThe Women’s Board SCSC (Summer Christian Service Corps) Craft table will be back at the annual SDB General Conference being held this summer in Houghton, New York.  The SDB Women’s Board sells home-made items donated by people from all across the United States and Canada with the proceeds going to support their SCSC ministry.

A variety of home-made items are donated for sale at the SCSC Craft table including crocheted, knitted, and sewn items, woodworking, paper crafts, unique artwork, hand-crafted-jewelry, quilts, soaps, home-canned items, and more.   Even if you are not planning to attend SDB General Conference in Houghton, NY on July 31-August 6, 2016, you can still participate by sending your handcrafted donations with someone from your church who is planning on attending!

Summer Christian Service Corps has been a ministry of the Seventh Day Baptist Women’s Society for over 50 years.   Each year approximately 15-20 young adults volunteer to spend 7 weeks of their summer in dedicated service to God.  Their summer starts with a week of intensive training (currently held at Camp Harley Sutton in Alfred Station, New York). Following On‐site Training, the SCSC student is sent to a host church for their ministry “project” . The project weeks are spent working within the ministries of the host church, closely with their Project Director (PD). SCSC students may work at camps, Vacation Bible School, providing testimonies and special music, working with youth & children, helping with various church activities, and additional responsibilities at General Conference may be part of the project as well.  Through the ministry of SCSC the host church has the opportunity to benefit from the talent, training and enthusiasm of these young people.  Following their church projects, the SCSC students & training staff meet together again for an evaluation period.

The transportation costs and attendance fees for General Conference are the primary costs of the SCSC program.  Participating students are asked to raise a portion of the funding, but additional donations are needed to meet all the expenses.  The proceeds from the Women’s Society craft table will go exclusively to support SCSC.

Help support this worthwhile program by donating, or encouraging others to donate items they have created to the SCSC Craft table at General Conference this summer!

2016 Mission Offering

Our Mission Offering is designated to a different recipient each quarter

Each Sabbath we have a time in our worship service where we encourage children (and adults) to bring their spare change to contribute to our Mission Offering.  You’ll hear the congregation singing the song “Building Up the Temple” as the offering is collected in a small wooden house-like container.

The Mission Offering does not replace regular Biblical tithing and giving which is collected in an offering plate located at the back of the sanctuary as people enter.  The regular church offering is used to support the church programs and facilities (building mortgage, pastor’s salary, church supplies, building maintenance, classroom materials, etc.)  The Mission Offering is designated to a mission project outside of our church and the recipients are discussed and selected in advance at our church business meetings.

Getty_031512_PuertoRicoFlagFor 2016, the first quarter (Jan-Mar) Mission Offering went to support our branch church in Puerto Rico, started in 2012 when two of our members moved there.  See the Puerto Rico Mission section on this website for more information about this exciting group starting up.  The second quarter (Apr-Jun) is designated to go to Wells in Africa through the Seventh Day Baptist Missionary Society.  wells in africa The third quarter (Jul-Sept) will go toward financing a Christmas-oriented outreach.  In the past few years we have participated in Operation Christmas Child, but this year we are looking at some other alternatives which the 3Q mission offering will go toward.   The fourth quarter (Oct-Dec) will be finalized later in the year.

Egg-stravaganza Egg Hunt on March 26th

eggs

Lots of children, lots of filled eggs, plenty of sunshine, and plenty of laughter made the perfect combination for our church’s first ever EGG-STRAVAGANZA Egg Hunt held on Sabbath afternoon, March 26, 2016 starting at 2:00 pm.

There were separate areas set up in the open field behind the church for each of three different age groups:  0-3 years old, 4-7 years old, and 8-12 years old.  So each age group had it’s own area and eggs to hunt.

The weather cooperated and it was a beautiful sunny spring afternoon as the children had a blast collecting the many different colored eggs filled with toys and candy scattered across the field — and the adults were thoroughly entertained watching and helping them.   Here are some pictures of the the fun & excitement!
